Southern beauties in Bollywood

Often acclaimed as the most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya Rai made her movie debut with Tamil film, Iruvar (1997) and had her first commercial success in the Tamil movie Jeans (1998), and came to the attention of Bollywood in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Asin will make her Bollywood move in Aamir Khan's home production Ghajini.

Gelina D'Souza, who has done around 20 films in Tamil and Telugu, will be seen this Friday opposite Akshaye Khanna in Mere Baap Pehle Aap and then much-awaited Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na opposite Aamir's nephew Imraan Khan.

Kollywood siren Shriya Saran, who sizzled opposite Rajini in Sivaji, is all set for her Bollywood move and will be seen as a TV journalist in Mission Istanbul. She even has two Hollywood projects including Ashok Amritraj's The Other side of Line and What's Cooking.

Late actress Divya Bharti was very popular in the early 1990s. She started her career in 1990 with a Telugu film Bobbili Raja and then found success with the Hindi film industry.

Sridevi started her career as a child artist in the Tamil movie Kandhan Karunai (1967) and acted in many Tamil and Telugu movies. During her early adult career, she acted in a number of Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies.

Jaya Prada, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, became a major star in 1976 with huge hits: Anthuleni Katha showcased her dramatic skills and worked in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada films and had hit films in all of them.

Rekha appeared as a child actor in Telugu film Rangula Ratnam (1966) and made her debut as heroine in the successful Kannada film Goadalli CID 999 in 1969 before shifting focus to Bollywood.

Hema Malini, known as Bollywood's dream girl, also started her acting career down south before moving to Bollywood with Sapnon Ka Sauagar.

Along with Padmini, Vyjyanthimala was one of the first South Indian actresses to become a major Hindi film star.

Madhuri Dixit can't really be called a Bollywood wife because her husband isn't in the industry, but she is married and she is still one of the most desirable women in Bollywood.

Hema Malini may belong to a generation older than the Bollywood wives mentioned earlier, but she can give each of the current ones a run for their money as far as beauty is concerned. Today, she is a more successful star than her husband Dharmendra.

Kareena has been in the news lately for her film that was previously titled Jehaad, but has now been renamed as the title is liable to raise problems and controversy.

Producer Karan Johar was a little upset with Saif and Kareena - the leading pair of the film - for declaring Jehaad as the title even before it was finalised.

The film has now been remaned Qurbaan.

Qurbaani is the third Saif-Kareena film that is underway, the other two being Agent Vinod and Race 2.

Ash impresses Berlin

The Indian beauty was cheered by hundreds of film enthusiasts when she arrived at the Berlinale Palast, the main festival venue, for opening screening of the film.

The actress showed no signs of discomfort in the sub-zero temperature in Berlin and spent about 15 minutes signing autographs, posing for photographs and giving interviews to various TV networks.
Answering questions from international media, Ash said in spite of her smaller role, she was quite delighted to be a part of the sequel to the 2006 worldwide hit and felt quite honoured to work with celebrities like Steve Martin, Jean Reno, John Cleese, Andy Garcia, Alfred Molina and Emily Mortimer.
The actress is globetrotting with the film's cast.

Ash, Rajnikanth in Endhiran

Check out superstars Aishwarya Rai and Rajnikanth in their upcoming film Endhiran. Endhiran, initially titled Robot, stars superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

With a budget of Rs 120 crore, Endhiran is said to be the costliest Indian film.

Endhiran is a science fiction film and is directed by S Shankar.

Shankar had previously worked with Rajinikanth in the superhit Sivaji: The Boss.

The music director for Endhiran is none other than Oscar-winner A.R Rahman.

The film is being produced by Kalanidhi Maran.

For the female lead Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Asin Thottumkal, Trisha Krishnan, Shriya Saran, Priyamani and Nayanthara were in contention.

Shankar initially chose Shah Rukh Khan for the lead role, but apparantly things didn't work out.

Ash managed to bag the role because she had worked with Shankar earlier in Jeans.

Chinese stunt coordinator Woo-ping Yuen has been hired to supervise the action stunts in the film.

The shooting locations include the historic Machu Picchu in Peru.

The original title Robot couldn't be retained because the Tamil Nadu government provides tax exemption to films with Tamil titles.
