Venus Raj won't pose sexy for men's magazine

Venus Raj turned down the idea of posing sexy for a men’s magazine.

Raj told TV host-manager Boy Abunda of "Pilipino Star Ngayon" that although she is willing to pose with her bikinis on, posing for a men’s magazine is another story.

“Galing ako sa isang pageant na nagtu-two-piece naman talaga for the show. Sa akin naman, as long as walang bahid ng kalaswaan ’yung photo, walang problema sa akin ’yun,” she said.

“Pero like men’s magazine o magpapa-sexy ka na, ’di kaaya-aya sa paningin ng tao at Diyos. ’Di rin naman ako papayag doon,” Raj clarified.

The Bicolana beauty snatched the limelight after winning big in the local beauty pageant Binibining Pilipinas. She was hailed Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2010 but was later dethroned for alleged inconsistencies in her birth certificate.

In April 2010, the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., the organizer of Binibining Pilipinas, allowed Raj to reclaim her title due to humanitarian reasons.

Raj then proved that she really deserved the crown when she represented the country and was named 4th runner-up in the prestigious Ms. Universe pageant.

The “Umagang Kay Ganda” host was also known for her response in the question and answer portion of the Ms. Universe pageant, making her reply “major, major” widely popular.

Venus Raj: 'Reyna Elena' in Santacruzan

Ms. Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj along with other beauty titlists took part in Araneta Center's version of Santacruzan.

The "Umagang Kay Ganda" host was chosen to be this year's Reyna Elena.

The Santacruzan is held to commemorate Reyna Elena (Queen Helena) and Constantine's quest for Jesus Christ's cross in Jerusalem.

During the Santacruzan, Raj shared some tips for newly-crowned beauty queens who are gearing up for their respective international pageants.

"Sa 'kin lang, they just have to show kung ano talaga 'yung personality na mayroon sila, or kung ano 'yung real self nila. Kasi if they will imitate someone or siguro hindi nila ipapakita kung ano talaga 'yung pagkatao nila, mahirap sa isang babae or sa isang kandidata na mag-compete internationally," she said.

Among other sagalas at the Santacruzan at Araneta Center were Binibining Pilipinas-International 2010 Krista Kleiner as Rosa Mystica, Binibining Pilipinas-International 2011 Dianne Necio as Reyna delas Virgenes and Bibining Pilipinas -Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup as Reyna delas Flores.

Following her victory as Miss Bicolandia 2007, Raj represented Legazpi City and competed in the Miss Philippines-Earth 2008, and was named as Miss Philippines Earth Eco Tourism 2008, and fourth runner-up to eventual Miss Earth 2008 winner Karla Henry on May 11, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria, Manila.

After joining Miss Philippines-Earth in 2008, Raj took a break from beauty contests and worked as an Information Assistant at the regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. In 2010, Raj screened for the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant and made it to the official list of candidates. On March 6, 2010, she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe during the pageant's Grand Coronation Night at the Araneta Coliseum. She won the right to represent the Philippines in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. She also won the special awards Best in Long Gown, Best in Philippine Terno, and was a co-winner for Miss Friendship - a rare feat for a major title winner.

Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Maria Venus Raj admitted that she was hurt by the criticisms of people about her hairstyle during the Bb. Pilipinas 2011 coronation night.

“Masakit sa akin. Actually umiyak ako dahil doon after the coronation night. Pagod na pagod ako noong araw na iyon tapos may trabaho ako kinaumagahan,” she told “Showbiz News Ngayon.”

According to Raj, she was not able to hold her emotions when she read people’s tweets.

“Noong binabasa ko ang mga tweets ng mga tao na ganoon ang naging komento...sobrang pagod ka, stressed ka rin tapos ganoon pa ang mababasa mo, hindi mo mapipigilang maging emotional,” she explained.

Last April 10, Raj had her last walk as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010.

She was in the pageant to turn over the crown to Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup.

However, rather than being mesmerized by the beauty of the contestants, people in the social networking site Twitter noticed and criticized Raj’s curly hairstyle.

Although the beauty queen confessed that she was offended, she does not blame anybody for what happened.

“Actually it was my make-up artist and hair stylist’s idea. Professional itong mga taong ito. Alam nila kung ano ang maayos para sa iyo. Siguro nagkataon lang na nag-experiment kami during that time. Hindi ko naman sinisisi sila. Ako naman pinapalipas ko lang ang mga ganoong bagay,” she related.

Venus Raj: No Hand in Rica Leaving UKG

Beauty queen Venus Raj, 2010 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe and Miss Universe 4th runner up, laughed off speculations that she had something to do with Rica Peralejo and some hosts leaving ABS-CBN morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda (UKG).”

Raj, along with Iya Villania, will join the UKG gang starting Monday. Raj will deliver the latest and the hottest showbiz reports.

She will also host the newest segment of the show, “Barangay Bida,” which will air every Friday.

Peralejo bid goodbye to the show on Friday last week.

In her live interview on “The Buzz” Sunday, the 22-year-old beauty pointed out that she is in no position to demand who should go or who should stay in the TV program.

She explained that some hosts opted to leave the TV show so as to give them more time to do other things.

In Peralejo’s case, Raj said the young actress-host is planning to study. “Gusto din niyang mag-concentrate sa kanyang pag-aaral.”

She added: “May iba magco-concentrate sa news. ‘Yong iba magco-concentrate sa projects, kung anumang meron sila. Hindi naman po ako ang naging dahilan.”

Raj was also all praises for her UKG co-hosts. “Sobrang accommodating. Hindi mahirap mag-adjust kung ganoon kabait ang makakasama ko.”

As for criticisms that she is not a good choice to become a new host of UKG, the 2010 Miss Universe 4th placer said she respects their opinions. She asked them to give her a chance to show that she can do her job.

“Hindi ko tatanggapin ang isang project na hindi ko kaya. Alam kong kaya ko kaya tinanggap ko,” she said.
