It's official! Cheryl Cole WILL be a judge on the U.S. version of X Factor

By SARAH FITZMAURICE

I'm in! Cheryl Cole is excited to be heading stateside for the U.S. version of the show where she will sit next to Simon Cowell and LA Reid on the judging panel

After months of speculation, the wait is finally over - it has been confirmed that Cheryl Cole WILL be appearing as a judge on the U.S. version of The X Factor.

In a statement released today, the British singer is confirmed as a judge on the talent show - joining Simon Cowell and Antonio 'LA' Reid on the judging panel.

Cheryl, 27, has already voiced her excitement about the new role searching for the talent America has to offer and said she is ready to battle it out against Cowell on the first series.

Ready for battle: Cheryl can't wait to get the first series of the American version of the X Factor show underway and is looking to beat Simon Cowell as she has in the U.K. show

Cole said: 'I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of The X Factor. I absolutely love it here in the UK, and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special.'

She added: 'I can’t wait to get started. I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me.

'He’s tried to beat me for three years in the UK, and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.'

Great chemistry: Fox bosses have praised Cheryl's talent as a judge and have said America will love the way she interacts with Simon Cowell

Cowell, who has championed the Geordie singer in the U.S., said: 'I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with.'

He added: 'She is also a complete brat! Most importantly, this girl can spot talent.'

The confirmation about her X Factor role comes only days before auditions are held this Sunday, May 8, in specially-built high-definition recording studios in Honolulu, Phoenix, Nashville, Anchorage, Kansas City and Denver.

Auditions will continue in Dallas on May 26.

The U.S. version of The X Factor is set to be the biggest and best yet with the winner scooping a recording contract worth $5 million.

Corrie's Helen Flanagan goes back to her roots as she struggles to maintain peroxide blonde crop

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Bombshell: Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan's transformative peroxide blonde crop is growing out already

When she dyed her hair peroxide blonde, Helen Flanagan perhaps didn't think about how much maintenance the new 'do would require.

The 20-year-old actress, who plays Rosie Webster in Coronation Street, stepped out in Manchester today with her dark roots clear to see.

However, Flanagan seemed either unaware or unconcerned about her faux pas as she enjoyed the sunshine while shopping in the city centre.

In the pink: Flanagan appears to be enjoying the sunshine in Manchester City Centre during her three-month break from Coronation Street

Flanagan looked in good spirits as she strolled around, wearing a Noddy T-shirt bearing the slogan 'King of the Road' teamed with black jeans and a pair of huge sunglasses with bright pink flip-flops.

Following her transformation last month, a spokesperson for the actress told MailOnline: 'Helen has had the same hairstyle and colour for many years, and decided the time was right for a big transformation.

'She is absolutely thrilled with her new hairstyle and how it has made her feel.'

Flanagan's new look came during her three-month break from ITV soap Corrie to concentrate on her personal life.

King of the road: Helen was very dressed down compared to her normal glamorous self, right, and wore a Noddy T-shirt

After seeing her 'do for the first time, a spokesperson for the programme said they would be thinking of ways to write in the makeover upon her return.

The spokesperson said: 'We love Helen's look and knew she was having it done. It will be mentioned in some way on her return.'

One of the main reason's for Flanagan's break from the show was to concentrate on her relationship with footballer Scott Sinclair.

However, the 22-year-old striker has yet to comment on his girlfriend's new look.
Scott currently resides in Swansea after signing a three-year deal with Swansea in August.

Now Doctor Who scares off another one million viewers

By BEN TODD

Creepy: A Silent, one of the new killer aliens on the show

It has been one of the BBC’s success stories of recent years.

As Doctor Who begins its latest series with disappointing viewing figures, however, some fans are asking if the plotlines are too scary and too complex for its largely family audience.

Early figures for the second episode of the new series starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as companion Amy Pond show that more than one million viewers turned off the show.

Menaced: Karen Gillan as Amy Pond in episode two of the hit show

It secured 5.39million viewers – down 1.01million on the series opener the week before. Overnight figures for that first episode were down by almost 1.5million on the equivalent episode last year, although ratings released yesterday showed it had a final total audience of 8.86million.

Even so, the apparent downturn in popularity has led to doubts among some avid viewers over the plotlines being pursued by executive producer and main writer Steven Moffat.

Line-up: The cast of Doctor Who from left to right. Alex Kingston as River Song, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, Matt Smith as The Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond

Some fans also say the plots have become too complicated and involved, but others say it is important for the show to experiment.

A BBC spokesman said: ‘Doctor Who is a show for all the family. It’s well known for getting viewers hiding behind their sofas and children expect episodes to provide scares and thrills.

‘Doctor Who is never gruesome, cold-blooded or gratuitously violent. All content is carefully considered for a pre-watershed audience.’

Kendra Wilkinson leaves Dancing With The Stars

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Booty shake: Kendra impressed judges Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman in a sexy Samba routine to Livin' La Vida Loca tonight

She has had a hit and miss season on Dancing With the Stars so far, with Carrie Ann Inaba even criticising her lack of elegance.

But Kendra Wilkinson managed to leave the judges speechless on tonight's Guilty Pleasures themed show with her vigorous interpretation of the samba.

Wearing a barely-there yellow mini dress, the 25-year-old reality show star seemed determined to made an impression, and succeeded when she jumped on the judge's table for the dance climax.

'Oh, my god, - that was a guilty pleasure!' gushed a clearly impressed Inaba. 'You were so in your element in your dance. That was a big performance.

Meanwhile, head judge Len Goodman was clearly stunned by the vigorous number.

'Last week you had a spark. This week you had a fire,' he declared. 'The more you gyrated the more I palpitated!'

The star was clearly in her element performing the samba to Ricky Martin song Livin' La Vida Loca with professional partner Louis van Amstel.

Centre stage: The judges are visibly excited at Kendra's performance, while her dancing partner Louis van Amstel looks on

Earlier, she vowed that she was 'going to shake my butt all the way to the top of the leader board' - but despite winning over the judges with her sexy moves, she still failed to come top, although she did score a personal best 25.

Hip hop star Romeo and Disney actress Chelsea Kane both scored a perfect 10 each and tied with the highest scores of the season so far.

Chelsea's feat was made all the more impressive since her pro partner Mark Ballas had twisted his ankle in rehearsals earlier that day, with the painful moment screened on the show.

Romeo's waltz to Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On scored a romantic note with the judges with Inaba telling him: 'Every once in a while in a season magic happens - that was magical.'

Surprise smacker: Romeo gives his dance partner Chelsie an impromptu kiss during the routine

'I think, Romeo DiCaprio, that your ship will sail on and on and on,' added Bruno Tonioli.

'That definitely was not planned,' Chelsie admitted, while Romeo added with a grin: 'I was just going with the flow.'

Elsewhere, actress Kirstie Alley scored highly with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, racking up nines after a good performance to Britney Spears Baby One More Time.

'Great job - right up my alley,' Goodman told her.

Former child star Ralph Macchio had the toughest time as dance partner Karina Smirnoff tripped over and fell the ground. But they quickly got up again, and still scored a very respectable 24 points.

'I'm proud of you, and you should be proud of yourself,' said judge Len Goodman.
Bruno added: 'Once you got back on it, there was no stopping you.'

William & Kate TV movie is panned by viewers after Channel 5 premiere

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Panned: William & Kate. starring Camilla Luddington and Nico Evers-Swindell, was panned by viewers after its Channel 5 premiere

It's the type of love story that has kept the public rapt for centuries.

But despite the makers of the Prince William and Kate Middleton TV movie hoping they had a sure-fire hit on their hands, the movie has flopped.

And, after the William & Kate premiere on Channel 5 today, viewers took to Twitter in their thousands to comment on just how bad the movie, starring Nico Evers-Swindell and Camilla Luddington as the royal pair, was.

On set: The film has received terrible reviews from America and the UK

One viewer tweeted: 'Have just seen 1 second of Will and Kate the movie & can confirm it is the most excruciating & awful thing that mankind has ever created.'

MailOnline's Lauren Paxman called the film 'truly terrible', adding that it is, 'a shoddily cast, poorly executed, badly edited and surprisingly boring account of Kate’s route to royalty.'

The original: One viewer said Prince William, seen here with Kate Middleton, would have cringed if he'd watched the movie

However, while the majority of viewers despaired over the quality of the film, others wrote on Twitter they had enjoyed the 110 minute movie because it 'was so bad, it was good'.

William & Kate is out now on DVD.

Will Buddy get the boot? Britain's Got Talent sensation

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Best Buddy: Britain's Got Talent sensation Pippa Langhorne wowed the judges and audience with her singing - and that of her dog

She charmed both the judges and audience on Britain's Got Talent with her opera-singing duet with dog Buddy.

But now Pippa Langhorne has revealed that her beloved pooch Buddy - who was seen with her on Saturday night's show howling along with her rendition of Pie Jesu - might not be a part of her future career if she wins the ITV1 show.

The 20-year-old former model, from Worcester, said she had plans to drop the six-month-old lhasa apso from her act if her career took off, to allow her to record a solo album.

Left out: Buddy, a six-month old llasa apso, may be left on the sidelines if Pippa wins the series

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday Pippa said, 'I don't see my career with Buddy really. I see myself going solo. I would love to get a recording contract and release an album.

'I want to do a classical music album with a modern sound,' she added, 'I want to bring it into the 21st Century with a more pop or dance sound.

However she said that Buddy would not be left out entirely.

'He could always make a guest appearance,' Pippa suggested. 'But I don't think singing will be a career for him. At the end of the day he's a dog and I want him to have a dog's life.'

Picky pooch: Pippa said that Buddy could make a guest appearance if she had a successful career - but added that he did not like pop music

We are family! Grandfather-and-granddaughter double act wow the judges on Britain's Got Talent

By LIZ THOMAS

Double act: Ted, 92, and his 21-year-old granddaughter Grace are the stars of the show with their double act

With a 70-year age gap they are perhaps the most unlikely of musical duos.
But 92-year-old singer Ted and his 21-year-old granddaughter are set to steal the show tonight.

The pair have developed a singing double act that plays to both their strengths in a bid to appeal across the generations.

Strong man: The judges are amazed by 54-year-old Micky, who does a one-fingered press-up on a nail

Dressed in a tweed hat, gray cardigan, and chino trousers the pensioner drew cheers from the crowd as he explained how he wanted to make his granddaughter proud.

Ted said: ‘I used to be a professional singer in pubs and clubs and I gave it up when my first daughter was born. When Grace came along I was unearthed again. I don’t want to let her down.’

Viewers will see him perform If I Were A Rich Man from musical classic Fiddler on the Roof and then dance as his granddaughter arrives on stage and sings Gwen Stefani’s If I was a Rich Girl’.

Dog act: Linda and her dog Fenn perform a routine to Shirley Bassey's Big Spender

The show is facing an uphill struggle after losing a million viewers for the opening show - compared to last year.

According to ITV1 figures, the first show of the fifth series drew a peak audience of 10.9million on Saturday - 1.3million down on last year’s opening night.

The beginning of the 2010 series drew a peak of 12.2million and captured almost half the television audience, pulling in an average of 10.6million. This time the prime-time average was 9.9million.

Many fans felt that the programme has been weakened by Cowell’s absence.

The music mogul has pulled out as a judge during the audition rounds to focus on the launch of his U.S. X Factor series. He will return for next month’s live shows.

Jennifer Hudson is reunited with her Bafta award on The Graham Norton Show

By SARAH BULL

Reunited: Jennifer Hudson was reunited with her Bafta award on The Graham Norton Show five years after it was sent to her in America after she couldn't attend the ceremony

When she won a Bafta Award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson was delighted but was unable to collect the prestigious prize in person.

So officials decided to send the award over to her in the US through the post... but it never arrived.

And now, five years after she was meant to receive the prize, Hudson was reunited with her award during an interview on The Graham Norton Show.

Giggles all round: Hudson appeared on the show with singer k.d.lang and comedian Bill Bailey

Norton presented Hudson with the award in an humorous ceremony reenactment, but the surprise gift left 29-year-old Hudson slightly emotional.

Hudson, who showed off her amazing figure in a tight black Victoria Beckham dress, also spoke to Norton about her recent incredible weight loss.

The actress, who has dropped five dress sizes after adopting the WeightWatchers eating plan, said: 'I’ve had all kinds of reactions.

Group hug: The quarter pose for a photo, but Bailey can't resist copping a feel of Jennifer's Bafta

'People have said, "It’s not Jennifer" or "you look just like Jennifer Hudson… you have her face," even my son doesn’t recognise me from before and he didn’t know me when I was large.'

And Hudson, who is currently in the UK to promote her new album I Remember Me, is also feeling excited about next week's Royal Wedding - especially as she is planning her own nuptials to fiancé David Otunga.

Asked if she would ever get married, Hudson replied: 'Yes. Eventually I am. I am engaged, I have the dress and everything. I hear Kate has four dress options but my dress has four parts in one – it has its own show.'

Hudson also performed the title track from her new record on the show.
