VIDEO: Watch a tiny Nintendo handheld create a three story tall giant Posted: 22 Mar 2011 07:45 PM PDT It’s honestly heartwarming to know that, in a country that has been so rocked by tragedy and uncertainty, folks in Japan are still able to whip-up wacky 3DS tricks like this one. Here’s the deal: one key component of Nintendo’s 3D handheld (which hits the US this weekend) are AR (augmented reality) cards. When viewed at via the system’s camera, they generate assorted wonders that appear deposited in the real world. One such card creates a teeny-tiny Mii (your doppelganger from the Wii), and it was recently revealed that the bigger the card, the bigger the on-screen creation. Hence the experiment you see above, which clearly worked! Three-story-tall Mii created with a giant AR Card [Tiny Cartridge] |
New Meme You Should Know: The “Blind Date Murderer” Posted: 22 Mar 2011 07:22 PM PDT Reddit user spawn02000 posted his photo to the popular social media with the subject “I uploaded my photo to a dating site…So far no hits :(“. Though he was certainly in on why he wouldn’t have gotten any hits on the site, he probably wouldn’t have guessed his face would sweep the nation as a meme. Now, meet spawn02000 and his face, better known as the “Blind Date Murderer” meme. Have an idea for one of your own? Make one here and post the link in our comments. |

VIDEO: Hell freezes over as ads for PlayStation phone make actual sense Posted: 22 Mar 2011 04:08 PM PDT Earlier today, Sony (well Sony Ericsson to be exact) unveiled a new marketing campaign featuring Kristen Schaal for the new PlayStation Phone, officially dubbed the Xperia PLAY, and they actually make total sense. Here’s another… And another… Listen, you don’t have to tell me that they’re hardly the funniest things ever. But anyone familiar with Sony’s marketing machine as it pertains to anything PlayStation related from the past ten years or so will all say the following: these new ads manage to tell you what the hell is being sold and make actual sense, period. Which honestly seemed like a complete impossibility up till this point. Or at the very least, there’s always an over abundance of weird crap, so much so that any useful information is almost always overlooked and ignored thanks to all the smoke and mirrors. As a point of reference, remember Xperia PLAY’s debut commercial during the SuperBowl? Again, at least we found out at the very end that it was about the PlayStation Phone, but what about this gem for the PlayStation 1? The thing is, it’s actually by a favorite director of mine, Chris Cunningham, yet as a commercial it’s still a total failure. Why? Because it does do the job of tell me what I’m supposed to care about. Things have been piss-poor on the print side as well. Here’s a Flickr pool that tells the entire story, but here’s some highlights… Though nothing will ever top this in terms of flat out stupidity… So yeah, great job Sony! |
VIDEO: “Secret Lives of the American Teenager” show loves the word “sex” Posted: 22 Mar 2011 01:30 PM PDT Perhaps I’m not up on ABC Family’s programming enough, but given that the word “family” is in the network name, I’m perplexed as to why an episode of the shoe “Secret Lives of the American Teenager” uses the word “sex” 70 times in one episode. That’s almost two times per minute, adjusting for commercials in a one hour show. At first I saw this and thought, “Well, it’s a show about teens. It’s totally justifiable that sex would come up that many times.” Then I saw the kid with Down’s and they lost me. It’s all fun and games until you coerce a disabled kid into sex. So I’ve often been told while hanging around outside stops for the short bus. What can I say? They know how to slobber. Supercut of the Day [The Daily What] |
