| March Madness streaming on iPad, iPhone for free Posted: 03 Mar 2011 09:53 PM PST I’ve been searching for a reason why Apple would only give a two-week lead time for the new iPad 2 and maybe this is it: free streaming March Madness! Okay, that’s highly unlikely (I think), but the news that you can watch the NCAA Tournament in all its glory on both of Apple’s mobile-style is pretty awesome. Last year, streaming March Madness was available for the relatively low cost of $10, but you could only watch on your iPhone. In 2011, the tournament will be free, and it’s available on both iPad and phones. Two things. One, as someone who’s watched Sunday Ticket on both the iPad and iPhone, the former is the absolute jam — provided the streaming quality is good (and it should be), games are absolutely worth watching on the iPad. Secondly, the free part is obviously awesome, but it’s obviously necessary, too. There are just too many options for people to see tons of action on their televisions with both Turner Sports and CBS showing games. Per Peter Kafka at All Things D, the app will drop on March 10, which leaves plenty of time to download (and pray for any bug fixes) and scope out Selection Sunday and the ridiculous Thursday/Friday action. Oh, hey, and look who’s a sponsor of this year’s tournament … AT&T! Typically, I would make a joke about service here, but I actually think this presents a pretty interesting opportunity for them. First of all, while overall service coverage from AT&T is substantially worse than Verizon, the speed of their coverage is much better. Someone needs to take a iPad from each company and film how well they perform side-by-side; if AT&T, as corporate sponsor, stomps on Verizon, well, even Luke Wilson couldn’t screw up that kind of advertising. | SheenWatch: Charlie Sheen passes drug test again, tweeting for cash, and more updates Posted: 03 Mar 2011 02:05 PM PST
— Sheen has now passed four drug tests in four days. So unlike his “batting average” with marriage, he’s batting 1.000 so far when it comes to proving he’s currently drug-free. Sheen also challenged his soon to be ex-wife Brooke Mueller (the current custody-holder of his twins) to also submit to a drug test, saying “Brooke’s gonna be doing a whole lot of these.” Sheen also showed RadarOnline.com photos that he claims prove recent drug use by Mueller and plans to present this photographic evidence to a court as soon as Wednesday in an effort to reclaim custody of his kids. Natalie Kenly, one of Charlie’s girlfriends, even went so far as to say that she had a “serious talk” with Mueller about not doing drugs before the group took their trip to the Bahamas last week. — Charlie has also let it be known that his reason for suddenly becoming interested in Twitter is that he sees it as a “cash cow,” noting that he is currently unemployed. (Though he points out that the milk tweet – his first tweet – was a freebie.) With over one million followers and growing it’s estimated that Sheen could make $1 million a year just for tweeting endorsements. Here are a couple of today’s Twitter highlights: “Face it folks, you just feel better when you say it. #WINNING” and “Ready for my next fastball, world? PLAN BETTER Applies to everything where an excuse now sits. Try it. U won’t be wrong. Ever. #PlanBetter”. — Sheen reached out to John Stamos, the man he ripped as a possible replacement for him on Two and a Half Men. “I was out of line and you're a beautiful man, and a talented man, and if you get the gig, we should talk,” Sheen told KTLA News on Wednesday. — Betting Web sites are now getting in on the Charlie Sheen action as BetUS has posted odds on everything from “When will Charlie Sheen get arrested next” and “Odds that one of Charlie Sheen's girlfriends gets pregnant in 2011″ to whether he wins Time’s person of the year (200 to 1). — And lastly today, Charlie’s brother Emilio Estevez is also getting into the meme business, though he’s not nearly as gnarly as his sibling. However, I highly doubt that Ben’s going to be involved in handing out the checks to consumers who purchased repairs for Dell’s shoddy products. More importantly, are YOU one of those consumers? Because if you are, you should probably find out and get some money from Dell, who just lost a class-action lawsuit. The full details are at a website breaking the lawsuit, but here’s the skinny: If you owned a Dell 1150, 5100 or 5160, you got hosed, because Dell purposely made those products in a poor manner. (Frankly, I can’t believe it’s only three models — when I first read about this, I assumed it was the entire company.) How so? Well, the Plaintiffs claimed that Dell “acted deceptively in designing, manufacturing, marketing, selling, and servicing” these computers and that Dell provided (1) inadequate cooling systems (2) a power supply system that prematurely fails when used as intended and (3) motherboards that prematurely fail when used as intended. If you’ve ever owned a Dell, this sounds pretty accurate. The company, of course, is denying all wrongdoing and just handing out money to consumers in place of actually admitting they did something wrong. The whole notion of “why are you paying if you didn’t do anything wrong?” aside, if you owned one of those, you can get some cash. First, just be on the lookout for a “Notice of Eligibility” from Dell. Knowing them, it will probably come in a barely marked envelope that won’t make you want to open it. (And it could say “Auto” on there, because they’re using their databases to find out who’s eligible, so don’t chunk it just because of that.) If you owned a computer and don’t receive that, go to the lawsuit’s website and follow the instructions. Be warned, though, that you’ll probably only get like $150 (per Consumerist), so the painful process might not actually be worth the results. Which makes it just like any normal experience with Dell customer service. |
| Your 28 favorite women of February Posted: 03 Mar 2011 01:00 PM PST Another month in the books and another interesting selection of sexy ladies as chosen by our readers (who know a thing or two about sexy ladies, amiright?). As was the case in January I thought it only made sense to give you one lovely lady for each day of the month and again I remind you to keep in mind these aren’t necessarily MY favorite women from the past month (though I do very much like them all), these are your choices as determined by the number of views each lady received. Those marked with *5 STARS* were especially nice, in my opinion, plus I added last month’s rank in parenthesis, if they were ranked, so we could see who is consistently a reader fave. Commence… being unproductive!!!
