| Get ready for some more Resident Evil, both the old and new Posted: 24 Mar 2011 08:03 PM PDT Just revealed, both in Japan and here at home, are a trio of new Resident Evil titles on the way. In addition to the two titles bound for the 3DS that everyone already knows about, is a pair of remakes and an original third title. Let’s start with the remakes; it’s Code: Veronica (which originally appeared on the Sega Dreamcast, and was last seen on the Nintendo GameCube) and Resident Evil 4 (which was first on GameCube, later on the Wii). As one might expect, both are getting HD upgrades… … A few additional shots of the redux can be viewed at Capcom’s announcement page, but they’re way too dark to make a real assessment. Upon first hearing the news, I was excited by the idea of seeing C:V updated to match today’s specs, since it’s still a favorite entry of mine and one that’s over ten years old, so a facelift is not such a bad idea. RE4 on the other-hand is relatively new (the original’s only been around for six years; the Wii only four) and still looks damn fine by today’s standards. But once word hit that they’d be DLC and not retail offerings, much of my interested immediately died away. Why? Well, not to be overly speculative or dramatic, but that just speaks to me of a half-hearted attempt. And once I got wind that in the case of RE4, the vastly inferior PS2 version would make the foundation of the revamp (from some dude on Twitter granted, but he knows what he’s talking about, trust me), my hunch was all but confirmed. The last REmake that actually mattered was part 1 for the GameCube; you could tell Capcom actually cared because they put a lot of time and effort (and money) into the production. Meanwhile, these latest efforts sound like lazy ports, in which existing assets will be updated for sure, and that sounds great on paper, but the finished product rarely meets its potential. Meanwhile, what about the third title? Well, VG247 states that the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine is where you’ll find info pertaining to Resident Evil: Racoon City. This American based effort, by former SOCOM devs, puts you in the role of the bad guys, the Umbrella Security Services Squad. So instead of blasting away zombies and attempting to discover the truth, your job is to destroy incriminating evidence and killing innocent survivors. Oh boy. Aside from the fact that it’s already been confirmed to be nothing more than some bizarre side-story (in which you can “change the history of Resident Evil”, to the point that you can kill prominent characters, which would totally mess up the timeline), it’s the whole “you’re the bad guy” that gives me bad vibes the most. I can already see a scene eerily reminiscent of the now infamous airport massacre in Modern Warfare. Or to be more exact, a crappy take on it. Again, time will only tell. But given how dumb the Devil May Cry revamp is looking thus far, again, I’m not super optimistic. But yeah, at least those 3DS title still look great! |

| Music to get dressed to – Theophilus London Posted: 24 Mar 2011 03:45 PM PDT The Brooklyn-bred rapper is blowing up these days. He’s been in everything from Esquire to Mountain Dew commercials. His eclectic style has earned him notable street cred amongst fashion’s elite and his music is sure to get you movin’.
 Three years ago I wrote on another blog of mine that Theophilus London would be the future. Over the last year, the guy has exploded onto the indie music scene with his unique brand of hip-hop/rap. He’s had multiple mix-tapes and a few EPs to his name, all of which are available on his website. His latest, Lover’s Holiday, is currently available digitally on iTunes. My favorite mix-tape of his is probably the first one, This Charming Mixtape. Some of the mixes on there are insane, straight up bangers. London has worked with the likes of Mark Ronson and Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend. He even recently collaborated with Sara Quin (of Tegan and Sara fame) and performed with her on The Late Show with David Letterman. Check out the video below of that performance and of his remix to “Starry Eyes” by UK artist Ellie Goulding: Theophilus has also been a bit of a fashionisto, as he has a very distinct sense of style. He’s not afraid to peacock a little bit and wear pieces that some may not usually wear together. He’s done campaigns with Cole Haan (picture above) and Bushmills, not to mention been featured in a spread with Mark Ronson in Esquire Magazine.  Check out his music and blast that ish before you’re getting ready to go out. I love listening to his stuff just walking around the streets of NYC. They’re a great soundtrack to the city and his beats get me pumped. Enjoy! |

Most brackets looked ugly after last weekend’s action as several huge upsets occurred. Four double digit seeds advanced to the Sweet 16 including the 12th seeded Richmond Spiders and the 11th seeded VCU Rams. Oddly enough, both teams are from the same town. Tournament action resumes tonight with four games on the docket. There are several of you still in the hunt for first place in the Guyism pool so here’s how the top 12 shake out.  After we got down to the Final Four on Sunday, we’ll run the scenario generator for everyone so you know exactly who to root for next weekend. | Essentials – Spring 2011: Saddle Shoes Posted: 24 Mar 2011 01:30 PM PDT Back in the 50′s, saddle shoes weren’t just for squares and girls in poodle skirts anymore. Both the Elvis-wanna-bes and bobby-soxers rocked these alike. And now they’re back. These shoes are a great way to add a little variety in your footwear this Spring/Summer.
I came to love saddle shoes last summer when I got my first pair. I had remembered wearing them as a real young kid in the late 80′s and consequently thinking they were stupid as I grew up. But over the years my tastes became more classically inclined. I love the old-timey feel of wearing saddle shoes. It conjures up images of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, that swing era of the 40′s and early 50′s. There’s something so smooth and debonair about these shoes, yet also inherently preppy. They’re a great way to put a little spin on the timeless oxford or casual dress shoe, either by adding a little color or just the dual color patterns of the saddle and the upper. | Madhuri Dixit say bye to India Posted: 24 Mar 2011 04:54 PM PDT Madhuri Dixit bids farewell to India after wrapping up dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 4. She had come to India all the way from US to judge this show. She is very excited to return home and reunite with her husband and her children in US. Dressed in a green salwar kameez designed by Manish Malhotra, Madhuri stated "Going back to US and spending time with my sons is all I’m thinking of, at the moment." The actress said further, "I had to be convinced a lot to take up Jhalak because I wasn’t willing to leave my kids in the US." She said, "Now that the show is over, I want to go back to my family and sons Arin and Rayan in Denver. I have been missing them so much. I’ve not cooked for them for months and I’d love to feed them from my kitchen once I am back." During her stay in India she was offered numerous film offers and she has also done an endorsement. She added "Talks are on and if everything works out well, I will be part of the next edition of JDJ. Though, nothing is finalised as of now." |
