This is me, and the way I view my life. The man driving is Fate, and he knows where he's going, for the most part. Sometimes he takes me down some funny roads, and other times the houses all look the same. One day the road'll be bumpy, and the next it'll be smooth sailing. Occasionally we'll pass a landmark or two. Now look to the back of the car. That's me. Whereas most people are just content to sit back and let Fate take the wheel in life, I'm constantly chewing his ear off about something or other. He's either driving too fast, or too slow. Sometimes he lets other people overtake. I can't leave well enough alone, and sometimes I manage to wrestle control of the wheel away from Fate. This tendency to over-control (over-steering, for the purposes of this half-cocked analogy) leads me down some pretty weird streets. All the while, Fate is sat there, tutting with his arms folded, flashing me a few disgusted glances in the mirror as I continue down the wrong path. After a while I realize just how wrong and downright long the route is, and I eventually concede to Fate once more. The lesson is this: life is one complicated road map. We all start in Scotland and finish up at Lands End, but there are thousands and thousands of different ways of getting from A to B. 'It's my way, or the highway' really doesn't hold any worth here. Fate will have a few favourite, premeditated routes he wants to take you on, and a few landmarks he's desperate to show you, and other times you'll get to decide whether to go left or right at a fork in the road. But sometimes you've just got to fasten your seatbelt, sit back and shut the hell up!
