The American Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez was performing at Wango tango music festival in LA

Squeezed into a web-embroidered Spiderwoman bodysuit, Jennifer Lopez had no trouble climbing for the high notes as she performed in Los Angeles yesterday.

But the American Idol judge got so into her role as the crime-fighting action heroine, she didn’t seem to notice when her backing music cut out half way through a song.

Instead of stopping during the embarrassing glitch, the ever-consummate professional stuck to the script... and continued singing even though nobody could hear a word.

She was performing to thousands at the day-long Wango Tango music festival in the Californian city’s Staples Centre.

As she sang hit On The Floor, the music suddenly stopped, but J-Locontinued strutting and shaking her tightly-packed behind seeming oblivious to the breakdown.

Although with 20 years of experience under her spandex, such professionalism is the least many of her fans will have expected.

Last week, the 41-year-old squealed with embarrassment when Jay Leno showed footage of her first ever dancing gig - from 1991.

The singer and actress was appearing on the chat show to talk about her new - and seventh - album Love?

But Leno turned the conversation around to her time as a backing dancer and that’s when he played the footage.

Taken at the 1991 American Music Awards, J-Lo can be seen dancing enthusiastically behind 1990s superband New Kids on the Block, who were then at the height of their fame.

While her album has already bagged No.6 in the UK this weekend, the singer is yet to chart on the American Billboard 200 album chart.

And according to early indications, the singer was only expected to shift 60,000 copies this week in the U.S. - a lacklustre number for the American market.

If she got closer to the 250,000 mark she could well secure herself a No.1 - but her current sales are nothing to sing about.

And the album already has a troubled history - it was originally due for release in January 2010, but when her lead single Louboutins flopped, Lopez and Sony Music parted ways.

J-Lo later signed with Def Jam, which saw Love resurrected and the new lead hit, On The Floor, was received well, having shifted around 1.6m downloads.

It secured the No.1 spot in the British charts and No.5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
