Netflix reaches deal to stream ‘Mad Men’ Posted: 06 Apr 2011 03:23 PM PDT Recently we brought you the sad news that at some point this summer, Showtime would cease allowing Netflix users to stream seasons of stuff that’s still running like “Dexter.” Fortunately, the ballers at Netflix have stepped up and added a little something else to their repertoire: “Mad Men.” That’s right, kids — pretty soon, you’ll be roaming the hillsides of television’s best show (it’s an argument I’m willing to have) on your Blu-Ray, your Wii, your Xbox, or whatever device gets you to where you can watch Netflix. According to the Wall St. Journal, Netflix is paying Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, the company that produces “Mad Men,” between $75 and $100 million for the rights to stream the popular AMC show. To do some quick math for you, based on the fact that there are 13 episodes in an season and Netflix has reportedly signed on for seven seasons, Netflix is coughing up almost a cool $1 million per. But it’s probably worth it for them, because who wouldn’t rather pay $8.99 or whatever a month for the option to watch “Mad Men” whenever you want, versus paying ~$50 per season? Answer: No one. (Well, except for the jerks like me who already own all the seasons on DVD. GRR.) This doesn’t mean when “Mad Men” returns live that folks will be able to stream the series, however. You’ll have to wait until the end of each season, and can then watch them via Netflix. That’s not exactly a bad thing, especially if you haven’t seen the first few seasons yet; no real rush there, right? More good news on the Netflix front, too, as in the same article from the WSJ, the company is reportedly working on securing the rights to NBC’s content (or Comcast’s NBCUniversal’s content, I suppose). Look, it’s a war out there in streaming land — Blockbuster just got purchased by Dish Network! — and it’s only going to get hairier as more and more people stop using stupid things like “DVD’s.” But that can end up meaning some pretty nice things for the consumer, because as exclusive as some of these deals may be, the competition will inherently push down prices. Kyrie Irving leaves Duke, enters NBA draft Posted: 06 Apr 2011 03:05 PM PDT Kyrie Irving, who only played 11 games for Duke, has decided to leave school and enter the NBA draft. Irving plans on hiring an agent, ending all speculation that he will change his mind. He is expected to be a lottery pick, if not the top pick overall.
No way to tell for sure but this letter from the Duke Chronicle may have pushed him out the door a bit faster than Irving intended. Warning! This is written by a Duke student so you’ll excuse the pompous, stuck-up, a$$hole nature of the text.
And yes, that’s why people hate Duke. Good luck Kyrie, you’re better off spending your years as far away from the Cameron Crazies as possible. |
Music to get dressed to – Childish Gambino Posted: 06 Apr 2011 01:35 PM PDT Awhile I told my friends that Donald Glover was going to be the next big thing in comedy. The new Aziz Ansari, if you will. I never thought I’d be writing about him because he was pretty damn good rapper. Enter Childish Gambino.
![]() I first heard about Donald Glover from his Derrick Comedy days. If you haven’t watched the video “Bro-Rape,” please do so as soon as you finish reading this post. He bounced around as a writer on 30 Rock and eventually landed a role on NBC’s Community. I always thought he was a clever dude and then I heard some cuts of his mix-tape from his alter ego Childish Gambino (literally got this from a Wu-Tang name generator). Now I knew he was a clever dude. You can say he’s biting off of Weezy’s flow and he’s not original, but his lyrics are incredibly witty and smart. Not to mention he samples a bunch of indie artists like Grizzly Bear and Sleigh Bells. He also has a couple songs on which he raps over some of Adele’s latest songs from her new album, “21.” Trust me when I say it’s at least worth giving a shot. Download his latest album here and take a listen to my one of my favorite remixes of his. It’s a must on my going out playlist. |
Raica Oliveira displays her tremendous bikini-wearing skills (41 pics) Posted: 06 Apr 2011 01:00 PM PDT ![]() Raica really should be wearing a life preserver being that close to the motor... for safety... Raica Oliveira is fast becoming one of my favorite Brazilian models (which is saying something since there’s like 100 of them) and this giant photo shoot she did for the Heine Spring/Summer 2011 Swimwear Collection (yes, another bikini company) only helps reinforce her ranking. I think I also may have figured out why there’s somewhere around 500 bikini companies. Women must buy, what, 10 bathing suits a year? They buy one and then don’t like it and go out and buy a different one and repeat this cycle pretty much all summer long, right? Seriously that’s the only explanation I can come up with for why there are so many of these companies. The demand just must be monstrous in order to support all of these companies. Ladies, help me out here. (I know there’s got to be at least one of you reading this. And if so, Tweet me so we can discuss.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
