| How to impress the lady friend on Valentine’s Day – Part 1 Posted: 09 Feb 2011 02:00 AM PST In this three part series, I’ll be posting three different outfits for three types of dates you can/should/will take your lady friend on for Valentine’s Day. When in the presence of a lady, as a gentleman you should always be presentable regardless of the setting. That means no sneakers. At all or ever on a date. You do know women judge you by the quality of your kicks right? Like the great Notorious B.I.G. once said, “If you don’t know, now you know…” The first date is the one you’ll have to be more dressed up for, the dinner date. Keep it simple, yet refined. Simple means a nice, pressed pair of trousers, a crisp collared shirt, a sport coat, and of course a tie. Check out my picks for a great dinner date outfit 3-Button Ludlow Legacy Blazer from J. Crew – $365 An updated modern fit of their 2-button Legacy blazer, you’ll notice the narrow, notch lapels and trimmer silhouette. It’s all in the details in this jacket (interior pickstitching, flap pockets, center vent), you certainly won’t fail to impress.
JPress Worsted Wool Flannel Flat Front Trousers – $245 JPress is one of the most iconic American brands still grinding. They are consummate American style. Get these to your tailor and have him (or her) hem for no break with a 2-inch cuff (or a little smaller if that’s too much for you).
Brooks Brothers Classic Slim-fit Dress Shirt – $79.50 Keep the shirt simple and you’ll stay winning on this date. To avoid a ton of ballooning at the waist, get a slim fit shirt (and well, buy the right size. I would assume that goes without saying, right?). The slimmer torso will reduce the extra fabric you normally have on a classic fit (and thus lead to the bunching at the waist), not to mention the higher arm holes will help keep the shirt in place.
Graham Withers Harrison Tie – $68 To pull it all together, grab some neckwear from this Brooklyn-based company. I had the pleasure of meeting 1 of gentlemen behind the operation and he’s a class act. I love their collections and considering they’re handmade in Brooklyn, you know you’re getting a one of kind piece.
Full disclosure: I own these shoes. They’re a little stuff at first, but mold to your feet very quick. I fell in love at first sight. These shoes will bring your entire outfit together. Trust me, she’s going to drool after seeing how great you look.

| Levi’s ex-girlfriend jeans makes you say, “WHAT?” Posted: 09 Feb 2011 12:00 AM PST  I'm single because I can wear my ex's jeans I mean, really? Really Levi’s? The 510′s are already pretty darn skinny. Now you had to go make a pair of jeans that look like jeggings but aren’t jeggings, continuing the tradition of double takes wondering, “Is he wearing pants?” I understand having a “boyfriend” jean for the ladies. They’re looser and far baggier than her normal pair of jeans, but they’re meant to be worn for comfort (I would assume). The ex-girlfriend jeans, however, can only lead to sterility 10 years down the road. I can see this model’s knee -caps protruding for God’s sake. In a time when Men seem to be making a concerted effort back to classical styling and well-fitting clothes, this is 3 steps backwards. Why in the hell would any man ever steal his ex-girlfriend’s jeans? Not only steal them, but to do so with the intention to wear them?! I can only imagine this is a massive land grab for their Urban Outfitters’ consumer, I really can’t imagine your typical Levi’s guy even bothering with this. Either that or Levi’s is trying to go for that Tween/Punk Rock-it’s-cool-to-wear-guyliner-and-girls-pants crowd. Whichever. I call foul, Levi’s, FOUL! Consider this a “C’mon, Man!” from the style world. | ||||||||||||||||

| Valet debuts new iPhone/iPad app Posted: 08 Feb 2011 01:45 PM PST Valet is one of my favorite full-service men’s style websites. And now you’ll be able to take them anywhere. Today they debuted their first iPhone/iPad application. It’s chock full with all the goodness we’ve become used to with Valetmag.com. The app allows you to comment and share at will, as well as surf through the archives of the website. You’ll be able to navigate all the usual columns like The Edit, The Mix, Ask Valet, Style At Large, etc.. No detail was spared here, folks. My two favorite aspects are the Handbook functionality and the Local Concierge. The Handbook allows you to go through all of Valet’s “How-To’s,” so if you ever find yourself in a bind you’re covered. The Local Concierge helps you find Valet-endorsed establishments in your immediate area – shops, brands, tailors, et al. You can get it here and it’s available for the iPhone/iTouch and iPad.

We can now add Alyssa Miller to the glorious stable of models that Intimissimi Lingerie is assembling. Outside of Victoria’s Secret, they now definitively have the best selection of models in the business. Up until a month or so ago I didn’t even know who Alyssa Miller was (Actually I still don’t. Where is she from? Anyone?), but now that she’s done some incredible work for both Guess as well as Intimissimi she’s definitely a woman on the rise.                                 | ||||||||||||||||
